Shani Ben Or
Cantorial Soloist and Programming Assistant

Shani has returned for another year as our UJC Cantorial Soloist and Programming Assistant. She was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel. From a young age Shani expressed a strong passion for music and later on in her high school years she studied opera at the “High School Music Academy” in Jerusalem. Shani and her family are very active members of the Reform synagogue Kol Ha’neshamah in Jerusalem. Over the years Shani participated and lead many youth activities in the Reform youth movement Noar Telem. As a result she decided to postpone her army service for a year and take part in the Mechinah program through the Reform movement in Jaffa. Through This program, Shani furthered her Jewish studies and did communal service work in underprivileged areas of the city. Shani just finished her army service in June 2008 and is looking forward to another amazing year in Hong Kong working with the UJC.
