THE UJC 2008 TRIBUTE BOOK

One of the UJC’s longstanding goals is to keep membership dues at an accessible level, and in fact dues make up only 22% of our annual budget. Each year we must raise significant monies beyond dues and the Tribute Book campaign is an integral part of our UJC fundraising efforts.

The Tribute Book has traditionally provided a way for members to express their good wishes to fellow UJC members, to recognize and honor members of the staff or to honor a life-cycle event. Each year our book has a special theme – this year, the Tribute Book will be a guide to traditional Jewish food and will include a collection of members’ favourite Jewish recipes. We hope that many of you will not only support us with a donation but will share your bubbe’s Mandelbrot or your mother’s matzo ball soup recipes!

Thanks to the efforts of our members and staff, the UJC has played a major part in contributing to the vibrancy and diversity of the Jewish community in HK, and fulfills a unique role in providing a home for Progressive Jews in Hong Kong. The staff and volunteers of the UJC work tirelessly to help create a place where members and unaffiliated Progressive Jews can celebrate holiday and life-cycle events. We should be proud of what they and we have built over the past 20 years – a community of 200 families, Hong Kong’s only Jewish Sunday School program (Shorashim), and a broad range of adult education and social activities.

But just as the success we enjoy today required the effort and support of members in the past, the future strength of our community depends on our generous support today.
